Dennis Harris named assistant district administrator for preliminary engineering
BRISTOL—Dennis Harris, P.E., P.M.P., was recently named assistant district administrator for preliminary engineering for the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Bristol District, which serves 12 counties in southwestern Virginia: Washington, Smyth, Lee, Scott, Russell, Buchanan, Tazewell, Bland, Wise, Dickenson, Grayson, and Wythe.
In his new role, Harris will be responsible for overseeing the preliminary engineering function of VDOT Bristol’s $410 million construction program.
Harris is a 1992 graduate of Bluefield State College with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a 2006 graduate of George Washington University with a master’s certificate in project management.
He first came to VDOT as a drainage designer in 1989, followed by positions as Bristol district river mechanics engineer and district drainage engineer. Prior to his new role, Harris served as Bristol district location and design engineer.
Harris, a Honaker native, resides in Bristol with his wife, Debbie, and their son, Chad.
