Public hearing scheduled for Route 19 signal install in Washington County

BRISTOL - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a public hearing this month to show plans for the proposed installation of a signal on Route 19 at the intersection of Route 1533 (Public Safety Lane). The project also includes the closure of median crossovers east and west of the proposed signal location.

The meeting will be held Thursday, February 23 from 4 - 6 p.m. at the VDOT Abingdon Residency located at 700 East Main Street in Abingdon.  In the event of inclement weather on February 23, the meeting will be rescheduled for Thursday, March 2 at the same location and time.

The purpose of the public hearing is to give citizens an opportunity to review and discuss the proposed plans for the addition of a traffic signal at the intersection of Routes 19 and 1533, as well as the closure of median crossovers east and west of the proposed signal location.

To give the public flexibility in their participation, there will be no formal presentation. Instead, citizens will be able to review revised plans with VDOT representatives at their convenience anytime between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Maps and other materials pertaining to the project are available for review at the VDOT Bristol District Office, 870 Bonham Road, Bristol, Virginia.  For additional information, or if you require special assistance to participate in the meeting, please call the VDOT District Office at (276) 669-6151 or device for hearing impaired (TTY) at 711.
