Secretary of Transportation, CTB members seek input on highway, rail and transit projects

CULPEPER — Secretary of Transportation Sean T. Connaughton and the Commonwealth Transportation Board are holding meetings across Virginia so the public may provide comments for the development of the 2014-2019 Six-Year Improvement Program, including multimodal initiatives for highways, rail and transit. Information about the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, which includes all SYIP projects eligible for federal funding, will also be available.

The Culpeper District meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1 at the Germanna Community College’s Daniel Technology Center, 18121 Technology Drive in Culpeper, beginning at 6 p.m.

From 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. the public can visit displays and meet representatives from the Virginia departments of Transportation, Rail and Public Transportation, Aviation, Motor Vehicles and Port Authority as well as the local metropolitan planning organization and planning district commissions.

Following the open house session, individuals can speak for up to three minutes or submit written comments. Speakers may register at the door; there is no pre-registration.

After the meetings, comments can be submitted through email or regular mail to Public Information Officer, DRPT, 600 E. Main St., Suite 2102, Richmond, VA 23219, or for rail and public transportation and transportation demand management projects and to Programming Director, VDOT, 1401 E. Broad St., Richmond, VA 23219, or for highway projects. Comments may be submitted online. Comments will be accepted until Nov. 30, 2012.

A draft 2014-2019 Six-Year Improvement Program will be available next spring, and public hearings will be held before the program is finalized in June 2013.
