SUMERDUCK BRIDGE CLOSURE BEGINS AUG. 21
VDOT contractor continues mobilization to replace structure over Sumerduck Run
CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation has postponed the closure of the Route 651 (Sumerduck Road) bridge over Sumerduck Run in Fauquier County to Thursday, Aug. 21. The contractor continues to mobilize resources in preparation for the bridge replacement project.
During the closure, the Virginia Department of Transportation has established a detour that carries through traffic from Route 651 to Route 17 (Marsh Road) northbound, then Route 634 (Courtneys Corner Road) westbound back to Route 651. Access to all driveways on both sides of the bridge will be maintained.
Message boards have been placed near the work zone to notify motorists of the closure and related detour.
The project will replace the existing bridge, built in 1933, with a new concrete bridge. A $1.23 million construction contract was awarded to Fielder’s Choice Enterprises Inc. of Charlottesville in July and has a completion date of April 27, 2015. The bridge is expected to reopen to traffic before the completion of the project.
Next Monday through Wednesday, Fielder’s Choice will working in the area to prepare for the closure of Route 651, including installing detour signs and making minor roadway improvements along detour route.
