ALL LANES OPEN ON RT. 29 NORTH AT FASHION SQUARE
Repairs to cold patch completed, contractor will monitor excavated area today
CHARLOTTESVILLE — 8:25 a.m. UPDATE All lanes on Route 29 (Seminole Trail) northbound are open just south of the Rio Road intersection. The three left lanes were closed about 4:30 this morning after the cold patch asphalt placed in a utility excavation failed during last night’s rain storm.
The contractor, Lane-Corman Joint Venture, has repaired the asphalt surface. A crew will remain onsite today to monitor the area and make any additional necessary repairs.
The excavation work is being done to relocate a large water line to allow construction of the Route 29-Rio Road grade-separated intersection. The work is being done overnight and the trench is backfilled and covered with the temporary asphalt each morning before the lanes are reopened to traffic. Once the waterline work is complete the area will be repaved with permanent, hot-mix asphalt pavement.
