BRIDGE PROJECT WILL CLOSE RT. 702 IN FAUQUIER CO.
Six-week superstructure replacement will begin July 17, posted detour in place

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation will close the Route 702 (Frogtown Road) bridge in Fauquier County on July 17 to replace the bridge superstructure and make repairs to the substructure. The structure, which crosses Cromwells Run, was built in 1936 and is structurally deficient.

During the six-week closure a posted detour route will be in place using Routes 709, 710 and 55. Message boards are in place on both sides of the bridge to inform motorists of the upcoming closure. The new bridge will have a 20-foot, 10-inch wide roadway built to current standards and be able to carry all legal weight vehicles.

More information about VDOT’s bridge safety and maintenance program is available on the VDOT website, Bridges in Virginia. Information about upcoming lane closures and other traffic impacts is posted on the website’s Culpeper District Traffic Alerts page.
