OPAL SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT BEGINS AUG. 20
Project will close two crossovers and reconfigure one crossover near Quarles Truck Stop

CULPEPER — As the safety improvement project begins on Route 15/17/29 (James Madison Highway) in Fauquier County, motorists should expect nightly lane closures in both directions near Quarles Truck Stop.

Crews began working this week to install construction signs in the work area. Nighttime lane closures are scheduled to begin on Sunday, Aug. 20 and are limited to the following times to avoid extensive delays during commuting hours:

Days

Northbound Route 15/17/29

Southbound Route 15/17/29

Monday through Friday morning

7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Friday night

9 p.m. to 8 a.m.

10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Saturday night

10 p.m. to 9 a.m.

9 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Sunday night

9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

9 p.m. to 7 a.m.


Early morning commuters should plan for extra travel time. Drivers are advised to obey traffic controls and use caution traveling through the work zone.

Under a $1.7 million construction contract, Virginia Department of Transportation contractor General Excavation, Inc. of Warrenton will close two of three crossovers near Quarles Truck Stop. The remaining crossover will be reconstructed to provide left-in, left-out access to the truck stop. The contract’s fixed completion date is Dec. 11.
