Vehicles will shift to traveling in the westbound lane on Friday, Feb. 17 between Louisa and Spotsylvania counties

FREDERICKSBURGMotorists in the Lake Anna area may encounter brief daytime travel delays Friday on Route 208 at the bridge that connects Louisa and Spotsylvania counties.

Crews will be painting lane markings and moving signs and barriers from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17 in preparation for a new traffic pattern on the bridge. Flagging crews will be present at the bridge to direct traffic.

Eastbound and westbound traffic will be shifted to begin sharing the westbound lane of the Route 208 bridge on Friday.

Eastbound and westbound traffic will share the open westbound lane of the bridge, taking turns crossing the span while controlled by a temporary traffic signal.

The westbound lane was recently rehabilitated with a new bridge deck and roadway surface.

After the traffic switch, the eastbound lane of the bridge will be closed to undergo rehabilitation.

A $4.8 million rehabilitation project of the Route 208 bridge is halfway complete. Since the project began in late 2010, work has concentrated on restoring the westbound half of the bridge while traffic traveled in the open eastbound lane.

The project is scheduled to be finished in December 2012.

Real-time listings of work zones and road conditions in Virginia are available on VDOT’s 24-hour traffic and travel information website,  Motorists can also access 511Virginia by calling 511 from any telephone in Virginia.

UPDATE: The traffic shift scheduled for Friday, Feb. 17 has been cancelled. A new date will announced as soon as it is scheduled.
