HAZARDOUS ROAD CONDITIONS REPORTED IN PORTIONS OF THE FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT
Motorists are urged to stay off the roads until conditions improve, download 511 mobile app to monitor road conditions
FREDERICKSBURG – (5 p.m.) Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are actively engaged in plowing and treating snow covered roads in the 14-county Fredericksburg District.
Road conditions in the Fredericksburg and Northern Neck areas, including Interstate 95 are reported as moderate to severe meaning that snow and ice are on major portions of the roadway.
Minor to moderate conditions are reported in the Middle Peninsula area, however conditions may deteriorate before the storm ends later tonight.
Motorists are encouraged to stay off the roads until conditions improve.
VDOT’s snow removal priorities are the interstate, primary and high-volume secondary routes first followed by subdivision streets and other secondary routes.
Snow removal operations will continue around the clock, in 12-hour shifts until conditions improve.
Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing tonight into Friday morning.

VDOT’s 14-county Fredericksburg District includes the counties of Caroline, Spotsylvania and Stafford in the Fredericksburg area; King George, Northumberland, Richmond, Lancaster and Westmoreland counties in the Northern Neck; Essex, Gloucester, King & Queen, King William, Mathews and Middlesex counties in the Middle Peninsula.
Road condition definitions:
Severe – drifting or partially blocked road. Snow tires or chains are necessary.
Moderate – snow or ice on major portions of the roadway. Snow tires or chains are advisable.
Minor – bare pavement except for isolated spots of snow, ice or slush. Driving with caution is recommended.
