VDOT PUBLIC HEARING MONDAY ON ROUTE 722 BRIDGE PROJECT IN CAROLINE
Public is invited to submit comments at next week’s hearing
FREDERICKSBURG—The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a public hearing next week for a proposed bridge rehabilitation project on Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road) at the Mattaponi River in Caroline County.
The existing bridge was built in 1966 and is structurally deficient. It has a posted weight limit of 24 tons for single-unit trucks, and 34 tons for tractor-trailers.
VDOT proposes to improve the bridge’s condition and remove the weight posting by replacing the bridge’s superstructure. A new concrete deck and steel beams would be installed.
Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road) is proposed to be closed for an estimated 4-6 months at the bridge during construction in 2015. The detour route is 4.8 miles, and an average of 1,800 vehicles a day cross the bridge.
The public hearing will be held:
Monday, Aug. 10, 2015
Caroline County Community Services Center
17202 Richmond Turnpike
Milford, VA 22514
VDOT staff will be available continuously from 5-7 p.m. to share proposed design plans and maps, answer questions, and accept comments on the project. There will be no formal presentation at the hearing.
For anyone unable to attend the hearing, comments may also be submitted through the close of business on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015.
Comments can be sent by email to fredericksburginfo@VDOT.Virginia.Gov. Please reference “Route 722 Public Hearing Comment” in the subject line.
