I-95 ON-RAMP TO CLOSE OVERNIGHT AT ROUTE 3 MAY 25 AND MAY 26
Crews will apply pavement treatment to interstate ramp to enhance safety, reduce crash risk
FREDERICKSBURG – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will pave an Interstate 95 on-ramp next week in Fredericksburg with a type of asphalt designed to increase vehicle traction, especially when pavement is slick.
The on-ramp to Interstate 95 northbound from Route 3 eastbound in Fredericksburg will be closed to all traffic from:
- 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 25 until 4 a.m. Thursday, May 26
- 10 p.m. Thursday, May 26 until 4 a.m. Friday, May 27
Law enforcement officials will provide traffic control at the scene.
Eastbound Route 3 motorists seeking to enter I-95 northbound will be directed to U-turn onto westbound Route 3 at Gateway Boulevard/Ramseur Street in Fredericksburg.
Once on westbound Route 3, motorists can access the northbound I-95 on-ramp from the westbound lanes.
High friction surface treatment will be applied to the ramp as a spot safety improvement to reduce vehicle skidding and crashes.
Message boards will be posted on Route 3 eastbound, I-95 and in surrounding commercial areas beginning Saturday, May 21, to inform travelers of the ramp closure. All other I-95 ramps at the Route 3 interchange will remain open during the work zone.
