BRIDGE PROJECT COMPLETE ON ROUTE 607 (GUINEA STATION ROAD) IN CAROLINE COUNTY
Guinea Station Road is now open to traffic and nine-mile detour has been lifted

FREDERICKSBURG  – Route 607 (Guinea Station Road) in Caroline County has reopened to traffic at the bridge over a stream in the Woodford area of the county.

In late February, Guinea Station Road was closed to through traffic at the bridge near Route 606 (Stonewall Jackson Road) and Route 660 (Claiborne Crossing Road).

Prior to the project, the bridge was considered structurally deficient and had a weight limit.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews began by making substructure repairs to the existing abutments and wing walls. Then, crews replaced the existing bridge’s steel beams, deck with new timber, steel and guardrail.

Crews were able to finish the entire project in less than a month.

The upgraded bridge is now open to traffic and the nine-mile detour has been lifted.

Built in 1976, the bridge had a weight restriction of 22 tons for tractor trailers. Following final inspection, the bridge’s current weight posting will be removed next week.

Approximately 260 vehicles cross the bridge each day, according to a 2015 VDOT traffic count.
