EXPECT LOWER SPEED LIMIT ON COURTHOUSE ROAD IN STAFFORD COUNTY
Speed limit will be lowered to 35 mph between Ramoth Church Road and Cedar Lane beginning Friday, Aug. 18

FREDERICKSBURG  –  Motorists should anticipate a reduced speed limit of 35 mph on Courthouse Road between Ramoth Church Road and Cedar Lane in Stafford County beginning Friday, Aug. 18.

The speed limit is being lowered from 40 mph to 35 mph in the construction work zone to widen the road from two lanes to four lanes.

The temporary speed limit will be enforced during construction to widen the road and reconfigure the Exit 140 interchange, which is expected to be complete by July 2020.

In July, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) started a $185.3 million project to widen Courthouse Road and a build a diverging diamond interchange to reduce congestion, address existing capacity issues and accommodate future growth in the Courthouse Road corridor.

Message boards will be posted next week for motorists approaching the work zone, alerting them to the future speed limit change and encouraging them to reduce speed ahead in the area.
