Crews will be working on the handicapped accessible sidewalk ramps on Route 17 near the Queen Street intersection on Wednesday, Aug. 16 and Thursday, Aug. 17
FREDERICKSBURG – Motorists should anticipate overnight lane closures and potential travel delays on Route 17 northbound near the Downing Bridge in Tappahannock to allow crews to repair the handicapped accessible sidewalk ramps and pedestrian crossings beginning the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 16.
Route 17 northbound will be reduced to a single lane near the Route 360 (Queen Street) intersection, just west of the Downing Bridge over the Rappahannock River.
Weather permitting, lane closures are scheduled for the evenings of Wednesday, Aug. 16, and Thursday, Aug. 17, from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following morning.
Crews will be working to repair existing ramps to meet federal Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
Motorists may encounter overnight travel delays leading up to the work zone in Essex County each evening.
A message board will be posted on the bridge approach in Tappahannock to notify travelers about the upcoming work zone.
Motorists can find real-time information on lane closures, work zones, traffic and other incidents on 511Virginia.
