Motorists will find isolated areas of snow and slush on roads in Caroline County, Middle Peninsula, and Northern Neck, but conditions may change throughout the day; Real-time conditions are available at 511Virginia

FREDERICKSBURG ⸺ Primary roads in Caroline County and across the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula have isolated slick spots and patches of snow and slush on the road surface this morning, and travelers are urged to use additional caution.

Interstate 95 is clear in the Fredericksburg area with isolated areas of snow or slush in Caroline County. Primary and secondary roads in the Fredericksburg area are clear.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews worked overnight in the Fredericksburg District to plow roads where 2 inches of snow had accumulated, and crews remain at work this morning. Sand and salt are being applied as needed to reduce icing and to provide motorists with additional traction.

VDOT is closely monitoring pavement temperatures and weather conditions. Additional snow and freezing rain may fall throughout the day Saturday. This could lead to wet, slushy, or snow-covered road conditions, and travel could quickly become hazardous.

Drivers are encouraged to monitor news and weather reports and to check 511Virginia for real-time road conditions before starting a trip.

Districtwide, VDOT has nearly 1,100 trucks available to respond to winter storms. During weather emergencies VDOT crews work 24 hours a day, in 12-hour shifts, until all roads are passable and safe for travel.
