OVERNIGHT NORRIS BRIDGE TRAVEL SURFACE REPAIRS SET FOR SEPT. 6-7
Crews will install fresh concrete to repair section of the Robert O. Norris Bridge travel surface on Route 3 between Lancaster and Middlesex counties

FREDERICKSBURG – Route 3 drivers crossing the Robert O. Norris Bridge between Lancaster and Middlesex counties should anticipate brief delays overnight on Wednesday, September 6 and Thursday, September 7 for repairs to the bridge’s travel surface.

Crews will remove temporary asphalt patches from the bridge’s travel surface and replace it with concrete for a smoother ride.

Between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. overnight on Wednesday and Thursday, drivers will encounter one-way, alternating traffic on the bridge, controlled by automatic flagging stations. Law enforcement officials will be present to provide assistance.

Temporary traffic signals on the bridge will be placed in flash mode during this work zone. When the concrete repairs are complete, the signals will resume color operation, and will again control traffic.

Temporary traffic signals are controlling one-way traffic at the center spans of the Norris Bridge as part of a $12.8 million painting project. Cleaning and painting the bridge’s center spans will protect its structural steel elements and prevent deterioration and corrosion.

The signals will remain in place until the end of the painting project in June 2018. This project will complete a full painting of the Norris Bridge spans. Additional spans were cleaned and painted between 2009-2012.

Additional information on the painting project is available online at the project page on www.VirginiaDOT.org.
