PAVING WORK TO BEGIN ON ROUTE 618 (RIVER ROAD) NEXT WEEK IN SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY
Motorists should expect delays on River Road starting Tuesday, March 21

UPDATE: Due to the anticipated winter storm, this paving work has been postponed to Tuesday, March 21.

FREDERICKSBURG – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin paving on Route 618 (River Road) in Spotsylvania County beginning Wednesday, March 15.

Crews will be paving approximately eight miles on River Road between Route 3 (Plank Road) and Route 639 (Bragg Road).

Next week, crews will begin pavement repairs and patching to the existing road.

Crews will be working Wednesday, March 15 – Friday, March 17, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., weather permitting.

Flaggers and a pilot truck will be used to direct motorists through the work zone, one lane at a time.

Crews will return in April to apply new asphalt.

Message boards will be posted next week to warn drivers about the work zone.

Motorists should expect delays while crews are working on River Road.

River Road carries an average of 3,700 vehicles a day, according to a 2015 Virginia Department of Transportation traffic count.
