ROUTE 662 (ALLMONDSVILLE ROAD) BRIDGE REPLACEMENT BEGINS IN GLOUCESTER COUNTY
Road will be closed to through traffic at Fox Creek starting Thursday, March 30
FREDERICKSBURG – Construction to replace a structurally deficient bridge on Route 662 (Allmondsville Road) over Fox Creek in Gloucester County will begin next week, and the road will be closed to through traffic at the bridge starting Thursday, March 30.
The detour will remain in place until the project is completed in April 2018.
VDOT recommends motorists use the following posted detour route during the project:
- Route 618 (Cappahosic Road)
- Route 614 (Hickory Fork Road)
- Route 606 (Ark Road)
- Route 662 (Allmondsville Road)
Motorists can anticipate an additional 5-10 minutes of travel time to reach their destination using the detour.
The bridge is currently posted with a 3-ton weight limit. When the new bridge opens to traffic in 2018, it will not have a posted weight limit.
An average of 140 vehicles a day cross the bridge over Fox Creek on Allmondsville Road, according to a 2015 VDOT traffic count.
The steel beam bridge has a timber deck and a timber foundation. It was built in 1937.
This $2.4 million project will replace the two-lane timber deck bridge with a two-lane concrete structure.
The project contractor is Bryant Structures, Inc., of Toano, Va.
