UPDATE: NORRIS BRIDGE PAINTING WORK CONTINUES MAY 30 - JUNE 3
Expect single lane closures on Route 3 at the Robert O. Norris Bridge between Lancaster and Middlesex counties on Tuesday, May 30 to Saturday, June 3

FREDERICKSBURG – Route 3 travelers may encounter brief delays on the Robert O. Norris Bridge over the Rappahannock River next week between Lancaster and Middlesex counties.

Work continues to paint the bridge’s three center spans, and repair the bridge’s travel surface.

Lane closures will resume at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30. Route 3 will be reduced to one lane overnight. Maintenance crews will make spot concrete repairs to the bridge’s travel surface.

Route 3 will also be reduced to one lane from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Wednesday, May 31 through Saturday, June 3. Crews continue to assemble and install painting platforms. Automated flagging stations will control traffic on the bridge.

No lane closures are scheduled on Norris Bridge through 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, for the Memorial Day holiday.

Cleaning and painting the bridge’s center spans will protect its structural steel elements and prevent deterioration and corrosion. This project will complete a full painting of the Norris Bridge spans. Additional spans were cleaned and painted between 2009-2012.

Additional information on the painting project is available online at the project page on www.VirginiaDOT.org.
