VDOT TREATING ROADS FOR WINTRY MIX SATURDAY IN FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT
Roads are presently clear, but motorists should check 511Virginia before traveling today, and apln to stay off the roads if icing or freezing rain develops

FREDERICKSBURG – Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews mobilized overnight and equipment is applying sand and salt ahead of a wintry mix forecast to potentially affect travel today in the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.

Interstate 95 and roads throughout the district are currently clear with wet pavement. Crews are applying sand and salt to roads in Stafford County where sleet has begun to fall, and on the Interstate 95 corridor in the Fredericksburg area.

Drivers should plan to stay off the roads if ice or freezing rain rain affects roads in the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck, or Middle Peninsula.

Freezing rain can result in a glaze of ice that is difficult to see, and it can lead to treacherous driving conditions. Motorists should not drive on icy roads, regardless of the vehicle.

If a resident’s driveway or sidewalk is too icy or slick for walking, road conditions are also likely to be hazardous in their area.

Road conditions may change quickly today. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to news and weather reports, and to check 511Virginia before starting a trip. Conditions may be more severe north and west of the Fredericksburg area.
