PUBLIC INVITED TO COMMENT ON NEW PARK & RIDE LOT AT ROUTE 1 AND COMMONWEALTH DRIVE
Join us for a design public hearing from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11 at Cedar Forest Elementary School in Spotsylvania County

FREDERICKSBURG – The public is invited to attend a design public hearing on Thursday, Jan. 11, to learn more about a project to build a new Park & Ride commuter lot at Route 1 and Commonwealth Drive in Spotsylvania County, and to comment on the proposed design.

Stop by anytime between 5-7 p.m. to review displays, proposed plans, and discuss questions with Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) staff. No formal presentation will be given at the public hearing.

Written and oral comments will be accepted at the public hearing, and afterward through Monday, Jan. 22, 2018.

Comments may also be submitted by mailing them to Mr. Byrd Holloway, Project Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, 87 Deacon Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405.

Project Background

This project will build a new Park & Ride lot near Route 1 and Commonwealth Drive in Spotsylvania's Massaponax area.

The lot will have around 700 parking spaces. Bus and ridesharing loading areas will be included, as well as bicycle racks and a bus shelter.

Primary access to the lot will be provided from a proposed entrance on Commonwealth Drive. A second right-in, right-out entrance will be provided on Route 1, south of Commonwealth Drive. 

The project is scheduled to be advertised for construction in March 2020 and would open for use in the summer of 2021.

This SMART SCALE project is fully funded through construction.
