FREDERICKSBURG - Construction activity is beginning on the intersection improvement project on Route 17 (Mills Drive) at the intersection of Route 609 (Thornton Rolling Road/Jim Morris Road) in Spotsylvania County.
The $1.3 million project will include:
- Construction of a left, through and right turn lane on Route 17 eastbound and westbound.
- Construction of a left turn lane with a shared through/right turn lane on Thornton Rolling Road.
- Construction of a right turn lane with a shared through/left turn lane on Jim Morris Road.
- Modification of the existing flashing traffic signal at the intersection. The new signal will operate in full color mode to accommodate the new traffic pattern.
Drivers can expect to see construction crews and equipment working along the shoulder in the work zone with periodic lanes closures in the work zone. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers.
Extended lane closures will take place during off peak travel times or during the overnight hours. Advance notice will be provided to drivers by electronic message boards.
This project is expected to be complete in Sept. 2018.
