MOTORISTS ADVISED TO USE CAUTION ON INTERSTATE ON- AND OFF-RAMPS
VDOT continues to clear primary and secondary roads across Hampton Roads

SUFFOLK – Interstates across Hampton Roads are clear, but motorists are encouraged to use extra caution while entering and exiting the interstates as temperatures remain below freezing.

Refreezing may pose a danger for one more day until temperatures warm, particularly in shaded areas, where icy patches are more likely to form. Motorists should watch their speeds and keep adequate distance from other vehicles.

VDOT crews continue cleanup work around ramps, exits and shoulders along the interstates, as well as on state-maintained primary and secondary roads throughout the District, including the Peninsula, the Franklin area and the Eastern Shore. Secondary roads are increasingly receiving attention as busier primary routes are cleared.

Between 7 and 18 inches of snow fell across Hampton Roads over the weekend. On the Eastern Shore, which was the hardest-hit area, the primary and secondary roads are icy but passable. Conditions on secondary roads there remain severe.

District crews will continue to plow and treat roads until the cleanup work is complete. The last remaining VDOT Tiger Teams, which brought additional equipment and personnel from other districts to help Hampton Roads, are expected to depart by Wednesday. District supplies are still in good shape for future storms this winter.
