LYNCHBURG DISTRICT: ICY CONDITIONS REPORTED IN PARTS OF AMHERST, APPOMATTOX AND NELSON COUNTIES
Drivers urged to know road conditions before travelling
Early reports of some freezing conditions on bridges in portions of Amherst, Appomattox and Nelson Counties have been received this morning. Area crews with the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are continuing to apply abrasives; however, motorists need to do their part.
If travel can be delayed, please do so. If travel is necessary during the early hours of Monday, motorists should check current road conditions by calling 511 or visiting www.511Virginia.org before venturing out. In addition, drivers should pay particular attention to bridges, overpasses, ramps, and shady spots where ice may form first.
Other tips for drivers include: slow down, allow extra time to reach your destination, allow extra space between you and other drivers, keep your windshield free of ice and other debris, and, again, know the conditions before leaving your starting point.
The Lynchburg District covers the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward.
