LYNCHBURG —The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a design public hearing on a proposed project on Route 711 over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Campbell County

The hearing will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Altavista Train Station, 414 Washington Street, Altavista, VA 24517.

This hearing is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give VDOT input on the proposed project.  The hearing will be held in an open-house format with no formal presentation given.  VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the proposed project and to answer questions.

The existing bridge is a single lane structure with reduced roadway width and an 8-ton weight restriction. The proposed bridge would be a two lane truss bridge on the same alignment with slight improvements to the alignment toward Route 682 (Leesville Road). The proposed bridge would be approximately 184 feet long and 22 feet wide.

During construction the roadway would be closed and traffic detoured.  Currently, the project is not funded for construction.

Comments about the proposed project may be submitted at the hearing or until May 10, 2013 by mailing them to Laura Walton, Project Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, 4219 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, Va., 24501.  Comments also can be emailed to Please reference “Route 711 over Norfolk Southern Railroad Public Hearing Comment” in the subject heading.
