ROUTE 761, PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY CLOSES FOR BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
LYNCHBURG – Motorists who use Route 761, Straightstone Road in Pittsylvania County should expect a change in their normal route when the road is closed between Route 600, Cedar Forest Road and Route 639, Honeybee Road for replacement of the bridge over Straightstone Creek. The closure is slated to begin on the week of January 16, weather permitting.
Signs and message boards will alert motorists to the change in traffic pattern and the detour using routes 600, 602 and 601.
The bridge, which was originally built in 1926 and carries approximately 400 vehicles per day is structurally deficient. Structurally deficient bridges are not unsafe but have deterioration to one or more major components.
English Construction Company, Inc. is the primary contractor for this project. The project is scheduled for completion by December 4, 2017.
