Fairfax County Parkway Widening Information Meeting December 7
Give input on preliminary design plans to widen from four to six lanes


FAIRFAX – The Virginia Department of Transportation is holding a public information meeting Thursday, Dec. 7 on plans to widen about five miles of the Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) from four to six lanes between Route 29 (Lee Highway) and Route 123 (Ox Road).

The project also includes:

  • An interchange that will consolidate Popes Head Road and the future Shirley Gate Road extension
  • Improvements to the existing Fairfax County Parkway Trail
  • A new shared-use path to fill in gaps along the existing trail

The project is being financed with federal, state and local funds, including Smart Scale and Northern Virginia Transportation Authority funding.

The public is invited to stop by between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. at VDOT Northern Virginia District Office, 4975 Alliance Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030 to view displays and learn more about the project. VDOT staff will be available to answer questions.

A presentation will begin at 7 p.m.
