COLONIAL HEIGHTS — Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Commissioner of Highways Greg Whirley approved four contracts this month totaling approximately $5.2 million for Richmond District construction and maintenance.

Branscome Inc. of Williamsburg was awarded approximately $997,000 for joint repair and paving work on Route 460 between Alden Road (Route 624) and the Prince George County/Sussex County line in Prince George County. Completion is expected by late July 2012.

Fielder’s Choice Enterprises Inc. of Charlottesville was awarded about $2.3 million to add a southbound lane on Brook Road (Route 1) from Villa Park Drive to Parham Road (Route 73) in Henrico County. A sidewalk also will be installed. This work will start in late April 2012 and be completed by November 2012.

Howard Brothers Contractor Inc. of Providence Forge was awarded two contracts. One contract was for approximately $117,000 to improve the turning radius and safety of the intersection of Whitehall Road (Route 673) and Sandy Hook Road (Route 522) in Goochland County. The work will be completed by late September 2012. The other contract was for about $1.8 million for reconstruction, widening and drainage improvements on Spring Run Road (Route 662) at McEnnally Road (Route 702) in Chesterfield County. Construction is expected to be completed by December 2012.
