NEW KENT ROUNDABOUT NEARLY COMPLETE
New traffic pattern in place and no longer guided by flagging operations

NEW KENT – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has substantially completed the roundabout project at the intersection of New Kent Highway (Route 249) and Tunstall Road/Airport Road (Route 612) in New Kent County. The intersection improvements include modifications that will improve traffic flow and safety, as well as provide capacity for bicycle and pedestrian travel.

The $3.2 million roundabout project now provides guidance to traffic by way of permanent concrete islands, new signs and pavement markings. Final checklist items still need to be completed, including lighting installation; however traffic will no longer need to be guided by flaggers on a daily basis.

The project is expected to be entirely complete in the next several weeks.
