VDOT TO HOST DESIGN PUBLIC HEARING FOR INTERSTATE 81 BRIDGE REPLACEMENTS AT EXIT 114
SALEM — The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a design public hearing on a proposed project to replace the Interstate 81 bridges over Route 8 at exit 114 (Christiansburg) in Montgomery County and the Town of Christiansburg. The hearing will be held on Thursday, September 15, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Christiansburg Middle School, Community Room 1, located at 1205 Buffalo Drive in Christiansburg.
The primary purpose of this project is to replace the two Interstate 81 bridges over Route 8. These aging bridges were constructed in 1964. To replace these bridges, mainline I-81 would be realigned, the exit 114 ramps modified and the grade changed at the bridges’ approaches. In designing the proposed bridges over Route 8, VDOT considered concepts for potential future modifications of the interchange.
The design public hearing is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give VDOT input on the proposed project. The hearing will be held in an open-house format with no formal presentation given. VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the proposed project and to answer questions.
Comments about the project may be submitted at the hearing or until September 25, 2016, by mail to Mr. Phillip Hammack, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation, 731 Harrison Avenue, Salem, VA 24153. E-mail comments can be sent to email@example.com. Please reference “I-81/Route 8 Interchange Public Comment” in the subject heading.
Anyone requiring special assistance to attend and participate in this meeting may contact VDOT at 540-387-5353, 800-367-7623 or TTY/TDD 711.
