TRAFFIC ALERT: ROUTE 668 BRIDGE CLOSURE IN BEDFORD COUNTY TEMPORARILY POSTPOSED
Traffic detour still anticipated to start in next few weeks
SALEM – A previously announced closure of the Route 668 (Goode) Road bridge over the railroad tracks in Bedford County has been temporarily postposed and will be rescheduled in the next few weeks.
Once the old bridge is closed, traffic will be detoured around construction of the new bridge until sometime in December 2017.
Drivers should watch for message boards at the bridge that will advise of the new closure date once it has been determined.
The contractor had originally anticipated closing the bridge to demolish it starting Monday, April 10, but additional coordination with the railroad has delayed the closure temporarily.
The bridge is located in the Goode area, 0.2 mile north of Route 702 (Prophet Road) and 0.3 mile south of Route 840 (Pilgrim Road).
The current one-lane bridge, which is at least 85 years old, will be replaced by a two-lane structure with additional vertical clearance for the railroad underneath.
