TRAFFIC ALERT: EXTENDED LANE CLOSURES SCHEDULED ON INTERSTATE 81 IN BOTETOURT COUNTY
Weather permitting, bridge repairs and milling and patching operations along the corridor of I-81 in Botetourt County will have several lane closures in place over the next two weeks.
Bridge repairs over the James River at mile marker 164 to 166 will require I-81 northbound to have an extended right lane closure for a concrete pour from 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 until 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, weather permitting. If weather is a factor, an alternate date of Wednesday, April 19 at 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday, April 20 has been scheduled. Lane closure will remain in place until concrete sets.
Milling and patching operations will be taking place on northbound and southbound I-81.
- I-81 northbound from mile marker 168 to 174 will have a right lane closure in place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning on Monday, April 17 and Tuesday, April 18.
- I-81 southbound from mile marker 174 to 168 will have a right lane closure in place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19 and Thursday, April 20.
- I-81 southbound will have a right lane closure in place from 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 23 to 6 a.m. the following morning on Monday, April 24.
The following week, pavement repairs being performed on I-81 northbound from mile markers 149 to 152 will require extended lane closures for the removal of concrete slabs. Extended right lane closures have been scheduled for Friday, April 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 a.m. the following morning of Saturday, April 29 and on Saturday, April 29 from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. the following morning of Sunday, April 30.
Drivers should watch message boards and expect delays in the area.
