TRAFFIC ALERT: ROUTE 460 AT SOUTHGATE PROJECT TO CLOSE NEXT WEEK DURING NIGHTTIME HOURS IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY
SALEM, VA – As part of the ongoing construction project at Route 460 and Southgate Drive, Route 460, eastbound and westbound, will be closed next week from Monday, July 10 through Thursday, July 14, between the hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for the erection of the bridge beams across Route 460. Route 460 traffic will be detoured onto Research Center Drive in the Town of Blacksburg.
Route 460 westbound will be closed on Monday, July 10, and Tuesday, July 11, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. During this closure, Route 460 will be detoured at Exit 5AB and continue onto exit 5A towards Industrial Park Drive. Also, from westbound Route 460 Business, the exit ramp to Route 460 westbound to Pearisburg will be closed. In addition, the ramp to westbound Route 460 at the intersection of Research Center Drive and Industrial Drive will be closed. A posted detour for traffic to follow will be in place and message boards will alert drivers.
Route 460 eastbound will be closed east of the intersection at Southgate Drive on Wednesday, July 12, and Thursday, July 13, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. During this closure, drivers will be directed to turn left on Southgate Drive then right onto Research Center Drive at the intersection of Beamer Way and Southgate Drive and then follow the detour signs to return to Route 460 eastbound.
Drivers are encouraged to allow for extra travel time and to watch the message boards for updated information.
