EXPECT DELAYS AT INTERSTATE 81’S EXIT 150 PROJECT IN BOTETOURT COUNTY BEGINNING NEXT WEEK
Lane and ramp closures will impact travelers on Route 220 southbound
SALEM –A major traffic change will begin next week at the Interstate 81 exit 150 project. Work has been underway to reconstruct the eastern section of the interchange at the intersections of Route 11 and Route 220/220 Alternate at exit 150A. Drivers who use exit 150A and southbound Route 220 can expect the following traffic changes:
- For the next two weeks, beginning March 4 at 8 p.m., drivers will experience traffic delays on Route 220 southbound. The right through lane on Route 220 southbound approaching Route 11 will be closed for barrier wall installation and continued work at exit 150A. This closure will remain in place for approximately two weeks or until the median barrier is constructed between exit 150A and Route 220 southbound.
- On the night of March 4, exit 150A on I-81 northbound will be closed from midnight to 5 a.m. A right lane closure will also be in place on I-81 northbound from mile marker 149.7 to 150.2 leading up to exit 150A from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for signage installation.
- On the morning of March 5, the right lane of exit 150A will open at 5 a.m. in its final configuration. From the interstate, traffic using exit 150A will only be able to turn right onto Route 11 southbound. Drivers requiring access to Route 11 northbound or Route 220 Alternate will need to use exit 150B.
- In addition, once the new median barrier is constructed at exit 150A, the existing median barrier between Route 220 northbound and southbound will be removed and replaced with a new raised concrete median. This will require nighttime lane closures in both directions of Route 220 at exit 150A, Sunday through Thursday, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
