TRACTOR TRAILER CRASH CLOSES BOTH I-81 NORTHBOUND LANES IN HARRISONBURG
STAUNTON – 10:20 a.m. A multi-vehicle tractor-trailer crash has closed both northbound lanes on Interstate 81 in Harrisonburg. The location is at mile marker 244 northbound, which is between exit 245 at Port Republic Road and exist 243 at Route 11 in southern Harrisonburg.
Operators at the Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton Traffic Operations Center say wreckers have arrived on scene and are working to clear the vehicles. TOC operators say it may be around 11 a.m. or later before a single lane opens and could be early afternoon before the entire crash site is cleared.
Motorists should expect significant delays in this area. Traffic is currently backed up for five miles.
Also, in Augusta County on I-81 northbound at mile marker 235 there is a significant traffic back-up as motorists are exiting I-81 at exit 235 to detour the Harrisonburg accident site. Exit 235 is located at Route 256 near Weyers Cave at the Augusta and Rockingham County line.
