ONE SOUTHBOUND LANE REOPENS ON I-81 IN HARRISONBURG
STAUNTON – (8:40 a.m.) One southbound lane has reopened on Interstate 81 in the city of Harrisonburg, following a tractor trailer accident near mile marker 245. The left lanes remain closed for northbound and southbound traffic on I-81.
The accident took place shortly after 4 a.m. when a tractor trailer struck an overpass bridge at exit 245 (Port Republic Road). The Virginia Department of Transportation is inspecting the bridge, but any damage to the structure is believed to be minor.
Northbound and southbound traffic on I-81 is currently backed up 4-5 miles in each direction, and motorists should expect related delays on Route 11 and other roads in the Harrisonburg area.
