BOTH SOUTHBOUND LANES OPEN ON I-81 IN AUGUSTA COUNTY
Lane Closure Tonight for Tractor Trailer Removal
STAUNTON – (3:50 p.m.) Both lanes of southbound Interstate 81 have reopened in Augusta County following a tractor trailer fire at mile marker 212 in the Greenville area. Traffic backups on I-81 southbound should gradually improve, but motorists are urged to use caution in this area. Drivers using Route 11 in southern Augusta County should expect related congestion.
The Virginia Department of Transportation has finished making temporary repairs to a section of pavement that was damaged by the fire. Crews plan to remove the tractor trailer Friday night at 9 p.m., and a right lane closure will be needed for the recovery operation.
