I-81 SOUTHBOUND LANES CLOSED IN ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

STAUNTON – (5:40 a.m.) Both southbound lanes of Interstate 81 remain closed in Rockbridge County due to a tractor trailer crash that took place last night at mile marker 182. Crews are working to remove the vehicles involved in the crash, and hope to reopen southbound I-81 by daybreak.

Southbound traffic is being detoured off I-81 at exit 188 in the Lexington area. Drivers follow Route 60 west and then Route 11 south to rejoin the interstate at exit 180 near Natural Bridge.

Motorists should use extreme caution, follow signs and variable message boards, and expect delays on this portion of southbound I-81.
