Clubs, racing teams, civic associations, and health organizations in Virginia sponsor fun bicycling and walking events, as well as safety and information programs, throughout the year.  These groups have shared the following information on their events.  Please contact the sponsors for details.

Anthem Moonlight Ride

Location: Richmond

Date: Aug. 8, 2009

Description: Howl at the full moon and celebrate the joy of cycling at the inaugural Anthem Moonlight Ride. Let your wild side show by decorating your bike and winning the best bike costume award. There will also be prizes for the best decorative lights for your bike. The Anthem Moonlight Ride starts and finishes at Sports Backers Stadium and features a short (8 mile) or a longer (17 mile) route through the Northside and near West End. A free concert awaits riders as they finish. There will be activities before and after, including live music, exhibitors, food and interactive activities.

Historic Back Roads Century

Location: Berryville, VA

Date: Sept. 20, 2009

Description: Enjoy a day of fully-supported cycling while taking in some of Northern Virginia's historic sites including Burwell Morgan Mill, Hawthorne House, Norwood, and Smithfield Farm. Options include quarter, half, metric, and full century routes [25, 50, 63, and 100 mile rides]. Pre-registrants will receive a t-shirt. Ride includes fully supported SAG and rest stops, hot showers at the end of the ride, and finish-line food and music.

Blood, Sweat and Gears Hemophilia Half-Hundred

Location: Reston on the W&OD Regional Trail

Date: Oct. 3, 2009

Description: Our annual bike ride is a 25K, 50K or 50 mile loop through the Virginia countryside on the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park. The ride starts and stops at the Reston YMCA, conveniently located off the Fairfax County Parkway at 12196 Sunset Hills Road. The event takes place rain or shine.

Fall Foliage Bike Festival

Location: Staunton

Date: Oct. 16, 2009

Description: Bike tour with various mileages: 100, 40, 25 and 12. Rural routes with great fall foliage views. Bring your granny gear for the hills, but should be fair riding for experienced century riders.

Between the Waters Bike Tour

Location: Nassawadox

Date: Oct. 24, 2009

Description: Citizens for A Better Eastern Shore is sponsoring the 17th annual Between the Waters Bike Tour on Virginia's Eastern Shore Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, beginning in the village of Nassawadox. Four routes (25, 40, 60, and 100) take riders from seaside to bayside along scenic roads to experience the true Eastern Shore.
