Motorcycle Safety Action Team
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has heard the concerns of motorcycle safety advocates and formed an action team to improve safety for riders. One member of this action team currently serves as a member on the Governor’s Motorcycle Advisory Council.
So far, the team has:
Increased Awareness
The team worked with public utility providers, localities, and VDOT field representatives to increase awareness of the presence and needs of motorcyclists on Virginia's roadways.
Added New Language
Additional advisory language was added to the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual and to classroom training materials to address the needs of motorcyclists.
Implemented New Signs
VDOT has worked to place signs that warn motorists of joints and steel plates along the roadway.
Issued a Flier
This flier was delivered to all new holders of Virginia motorcycle class operator's licenses. It's also available from the Virginia Coalition of Motorcyclists through informational trailers at events and motorcycle shops.
