Sign programs
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has developed the Integrated Directional Sign Program (IDSP) to serve as an umbrella for four specific programs that include those signs.
Specific Travel Services (Logo) Signs
Logo signs guide motorists to specific gas, food, lodging, camping and attraction locations along Virginia’s interstates and controlled-access highways.
As directed by Chapter 491 of the Virginia Acts of Assembly – 2005 Session (Senate Bill 813) – VDOT reviewed its Logo Sign Program’s fee structure to ensure the program is not used to generate excess revenue beyond a 10 percent margin to operate the IDSP. VDOT proposed reduced fees. It also considered options for the gas facilities categories to give priority to those facilities providing gas 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) approved VDOT's recommendations
on June 16, 2005.

Tourist-Oriented Directional Signs
Tourist-Oriented Directional Signs are used along roads that do not have limited access, such as most primary and secondary highways, to guide motorists to businesses, services, recreation and other facilities nearby.

Supplemental Guide Signs
These signs guide motorists to specific cultural, recreational, historical, governmental, educational, military and other sites of interest.

General Motorists Services Logo Signs
These signs use symbols or general terms to let motorists know that services such as hospitals, public phones, gas, food, lodging, or camping are nearby.
