January 26: Most Outstanding Crossing Guard Award nominations close
Is your crossing guard one of Virginia's Most Outstanding? Tell us all about why your crossing guard is one of the state's best using our online form. Be sure to include a photo and story letting us know how your crossing guard truly goes above and beyond. Winners will be announced on our website on February 7, 2018.
Whether or not your crossing guard is selected as one of Virginia's Most Outstanding, be sure to show your appreciation for their hard work on February 14, which is Crossing Guard Appreciation Day in Virginia. February 1, March 1 and April 5: QuickStart Mini-grant due dates
The popular QuickStart Mini-grants continue through the spring with three upcoming due dates. These $1,000 reimbursement grants are a great way to maintain the momentum of your program with some extra cash for SRTS activities. February 1: Walkabout Mini-grant due date
Want to improve walking and bicycling conditions near your school but not sure where to start? Walkabout Mini-grant recipients receive an in-person walking and bicycling infrastructure audit led by the LTAC serving their region, and a written report documenting the findings and recommendations. Two Walkabout Mini-grants are awarded each year; one in the fall, and one in the spring. To learn more and apply for a Walkabout at your school, visit the Walkabout Mini-grants webpage.
February 7: Non-Infrastructure Grant online application opens
VDOT is pleased to offer another round of Non-Infrastructure Grants for the 2018-2019 school year. These grants can be used to fund education, encouragement, evaluation and enforcement programs related to SRTS. All applications must include an updated Activities and Programs Plan (APP). LTACs are available to review and comment on APPs submitted by February 14. The application period ends on March 23.
