What's Being Done
The project to eliminate a curve near the Route 224 bridge over the Holston River in Scott County was advertised for construction bids in June 2018. The project is fully funded and construction is anticipated to begin Fall 2018.
Recently, an additional safety project was completed along Route 224. The safety project stretched from the Tennessee state line to the bridge over Moccasin Creek, a distance of 3.43 miles. The project included intersection warning devices at Route 704 and adding a turn lane onto Route 58 east toward Hiltons; adding one additional lane for .43-mile near the intersection of Route 58; trench widening for the outside shoulders; paving the outside lane shoulders; installing milled rumble strips into the asphalt shoulder; and upgrading guardrail and pavement markings.
