What's Being Done
Widening the existing structure on Route 55 east of The Plains in Fauquier County
Benefits
The wider structure and shoulders with additional guardrail will make the corridor safer.
Features
The existing stream was relocated and armored with riprap to accomodate the wider structure. The new roadway will have 8-foot wide paved shoulders. The new structure's railing will match that of other bridges nearby.
Impact on Traffic
Traffic is reduced to one lane and controlled by a temporary signal.
Project Updates
Project completed April 26, 2007, 2 days ahead of scheduled completion date.The project was also completed under budget, according to prelimary estimates of the final cost of construction.
