Under Construction: Route 15/17/29 Warrenton Interchange, Fauquier County

Cost and schedule ►

Traffic alerts ►

The project will replace the current at-grade intersection on Route 15/17/29 at Business Route 15/17/29 with a grade-separated interchange. The interchange design will remove the existing traffic signal on Route 15/17/29, allowing free flow of through traffic. Motorists on Route 15/17/29 will use ramps to access Business Route 15/17/29 and Route 880 (Lord Fairfax Drive), which will cross Route 15/17/29 on a new overpass with roundabouts at each end. A park and ride facility will also be constructed southeast of the interchange.

Traffic will begin to use the new interchange in summer 2020.

Temporary Traffic Pattern on Southbound Business Route 15/17/29

The acceleration ramp from southbound Business Route 15/17/29, coming from Warrenton, to southbound Route 15/17/29 toward Opal is temporarily closed.

Southbound Business Route 15/17/29 traffic is using the traffic signal to access Route 15/17/29 or Route 880.

Drivers should plan extra travel time especially during peak travel periods.

The ramp closure will remain in place until this summer.

The purpose of this project is to replace the existing at-grade intersection of Route 15/17/29, Route 15/17/29 Business and Route 880 (Lord Fairfax Road) with a grade-separeted interchange to improve safety and capacity. Traffic conditions at this location include a high volume of northbound left turns into the town of Warrenton, a large (12 percent) volume of truck traffic, and local traffic associated with Lord Fairfax Community College, the Fauquier County landfill and homes nearby.
