Project Updates
Interchange is now open!
What's Being Done
The project involves widening U.S. 1 between Route 627 and Potomac Creek to six lanes with a median. A two-lane road will run from U.S. 1 west to I-95 and then continue to a new airport access road.A diamond interchange is planned for I-95 and Route 627, though eventually that interchange will be enlarged to a cloverleaf design.
The old Route 627 Bridge was constructed in the early 1960s in conjunction with the original construction of I-95 in Stafford County. The new bridge is wider and longer than the old structure and is designed to carry the increased traffic volume on Route 627 and will provide for any future expansion of I-95. The new bridge runs parallel to the old structure. The new bridge is part of the I-95/Route 627 Interchange Project. The project is expected to be complete by late fall 2005.
Benefits
The project will connect State Route 627 (Mountain View Road) to I-95 as well as improve access to the new Stafford County Regional Airport.Contacts
