What's Being Done
There are three projects pending or underway for the Norris Bridge: painting (PM06-059-232), deck overlay (PM06-059-205), and structural repairs (0003-059-563). Although work for each is being done on separate contracts, projected timetables for the work may overlap; this informational page will give you details on all three. The structure was built in 1957. There have been various rehabilitative projects since then. The structure was decked and strengthened in 1996. The curb-to-curb bridge width is 23’-0”; the length is approximately 9989 ft. The average daily traffic count (taken in 2006) is 11,309. All temporary lanes closures for the three projects will be coordinated through partnering meetings between the Departments and the Contractors.
Painting
Temporary single lane closures may be required to set-up and remove work platform and containment. Work shall be accessed from below with no impact to traffic. For a portion of the process, temporary single lane closures will be required during painting operations. Work area will need to be accessed from the bridge deck. Temporary lane closures shall be limited to 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Deck Overlay
This project for deck rehabilitation includes removal of the existing concrete overlay, repair of deteriorated concrete filled grid deck, placement of an asphalt overlay, and resealing of expansion joints, and will rehabilitate the structure to prolong its service life at a time when this is still a cost effective option and provide increased rideability. The majority of the work will be performed utilizing single lane closures by flaggers. Daytime closures will be limited to occur between 9 am and 3:30 pm, night time closures will be limited to occur between 7:00 pm and 6:00 am, with no closures on Saturday and Sunday. Due to the paving equipment dimensions and operation, the asphalt placement will require a structure closure to all traffic at night for a maximum of seven nights.
Structural Steel Repairs
Temporary single lane closures may be required to set up and remove work platform. Work shall be accessed from below with no impact to traffic. Temporary lane closures shall be limited to 9:30 am to 3:30 pm and shall be coordinated with Contractor performing deck overlay and bridge painting.Contacts
