Proposed: Route 1 and Fall Hill Avenue Intersection Improvements

A project submitted for SMART SCALE funding by the City of Fredericksburg seeks to redesign the intersection of Route 1 and Fall Hill Avenue to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. 

On Route 1, this project will add a southbound right turn lane and extend the northbound right turn lane. The project also aims to reduce conflict points on Route 1 by extending the raised median along Route 1 and converting a short portion of Amaret Street to a one-way condition. 

On Fall Hill Avenue, the project would provide three lanes on both the eastern and western approaches. 

Benefits 

The project redesigns the intersection by expanding capacity to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow on Route 1 and Fall Hill Avenue. 

Major Milestones 

Design Public Hearing: Tuesday, September 21, 2021, 5-7 p.m. 

The design public hearing will be held at the Dorothy Hart Community Center, 408 Canal Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. If an inclement weather date is needed, the hearing will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the same time and location.
