This project will build eastbound and westbound passing lanes over a 1.5-mile segment of Route 3 between Potomac Mills and Flat Iron in Westmoreland County.
The project will build a 4-lane undivided roadway from north of Winter Harbor Road to east of Longwood Road. Adding additional lanes along this current two-lane section of Route 3 will provide traffic an opportunity to pass slower-moving vehicles.
Left turn lanes will be added at key intersections.
This Smart Scale project is fully funded through construction. The project's estimated cost is $12.75 million.
The project is scheduled to be advertised for construction in September 2020, with completion in summer 2022.

Stop by between 5-7 p.m. to review proposed project plans and discuss your questions with VDOT staff. The meeting will be held in an open house format. No formal presentation will be delivered.
The public may comment on the project at the public hearing, or submit comments postmarked or sent electronically by December 9, 2017.
