Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road), West of Interstate 95
Project at a Glance
This project will widen the existing two-lane segment of Route 606 (Mudd Tavern Road) to four lanes between Route 1 and Interstate 95 in Spotsylvania County's Thornburg area.
This Smart Scale project is fully funded through construction. The project is estimated to be advertised to bidders for construction in December 2019, with completion in February 2022.
Design Public Hearing: November 14, 2017
Join us at 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 for a design public hearing for the Mudd Tavern Road, west of I-95, road reconstruction and widening project.
On the same date, and at the same time and location, VDOT will also hold a location hearing for a new secondary road access north of Mudd Tavern Road.
The inclement weather date and time is 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017.

Stop by between 5-7 p.m. to learn more about proposed improvements to the Mudd Tavern Road corridor between I-95 and Route 1 in Spotsylvania.
Improvements include the proposed reconstruction and widening of Mudd Tavern Road from a rural two-lane road to an urban four-lane road with curb and gutter, concrete median, and pedestrian and bicycle improvements.
The hearing will also include the location plan for a new secondary access road (Route 2092) from Dan Bell Lane to South Roxbury Mill Road, which will be parallel to and north of Mudd Tavern Road, and will include a connection to Mudd Tavern Road. Plans for these improvements will be available for public view.
Stop by to review the proposed plans and the prepared National Environmental Policy Act document. As part of the process, an Environmental Assessment has been completed.
Project plans are available for review at VDOT's Fredericksburg District Office at 87 Deacon Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405, in Stafford County. Please call (540) 899-4288 ahead of your visit to ensure appropriate personnel are available to answer your questions.
Property impact information, relocation assistance policies and tentative construction schedules are available for your review at the District Office and will be available at the public hearing.
In compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act, Section 106 and 36 CFR Part 800, information concerning the potential effects of the proposed project on properties listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places is provided in the environmental documentation.
